Poolnights 2018 start 7 March!

2018 Poolnights – Starting Wednesday 7 March 8:30pm

Hutt Valley Canoe Club poolnights (in association with Kupe Canoe Club) are starting for the year on Wednesday 7 March 8:30 – 9:40pm at the Freyburg Pool and Fitness Centre, Wellington.

We have poolnights in association with the Kupe Canoe Club, who have opened their poolnights up to our Club Members as a welcome gesture of support for the overall paddling community.

It is critical to arrive around 8:25pm to advise the organisers (usually Marty Walsh from Kupe, and Alice Karvelas, HVCC Club Captain) that you are attending as we need sufficient numbers their from 8:30pm to open up the pool for kayaking. Please advise Marty and Alice you are attending from the Hutt Valley Canoe Club.

Rolling and paddle stroke instruction will be available from Hutt Valley Canoe Club.
experienced paddlers for those who are keen.

Please advise the club by email at hvccsecretary@gmail.com if possible if you are planning to attend, as we ideally would like to make sure Hutt Valley Canoe Club instructors are available and confirm numbers for the pool nights.

The cost is:

$2 to Kupe plus pool entry for Hutt Valley Canoe Club financial members, and
$5 to Kupe plus pool entry, Hutt Valley Canoe Club lapsed or not yet signed up members.
Please note also there are many whitewater boats at the pool, from playboats to creekers, but not many neoprene spray decks, only less waterproof ones, so you may wish to bring your own spray deck and/or boat.

Tongariro Release April 22-23 and paddling April 24-25 2017

A team from Hutt Valley Canoe Club are heading up for the April 22-23 Tongariro Release and following it with paddling Grade 3-4 for Monday 24 April and Tuesday 25 April Anzac Day. Might include Upper Rangitikei Gorge. We hear Kaituna is running at a pretty huge flow (way over 3 gates at 500) for the next several weeks, so probably not that! Also reports indicate the Rangataiki had lots of new wood in the middle section, and the forestry roads in were closed due to logging last weekend. Email hvccwebsite+whitewatertrips@ (gmail.com) or reply to this post if you are interested in meeting up for a paddle.
